Central Maine Surgical Associates consists of a team of board-certified surgeons that, supported by management, clinical, and clerical staffs, provides care for general surgery and trauma patients.
The surgeons offer a broad scope of surgical procedures for elective surgeries, emergent surgeries, wound care and minor office procedures. These surgeons provide care for trauma patients who are transported to the Central Maine Medical Center Emergency Department by ambulance or LifeFlight of Maine.
Central Maine Surgical Associates surgeons have advanced laparoscopic surgical training allowing them to employ minimally-invasive techniques to procedures such as: splenectomy (spleen removal), colectomy for benign disease (colon removal for non-cancerous disease), enterectomy (removal of a portion of the intestine), procedures for treatment of peptic ulcer diseases, Nissen fundoplication, common bile duct procedures, laparoscopic colectomy to treat curable cancer and surgery on all of the abdominal organs.
The surgeons also perform laparoscopic pediatric surgeries such as: appendectomy, pyloromyotomy, surgery for intussusception, bowel resection; and pediatric hernia procedures such as: inguinal, femoral, and umbilical hernia repairs.
Not every patient is a candidate for laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon will determine the best approach for each individual requiring surgery at the time of consultation.
The age range of Central Maine Surgical Associates' patients varies with the individual needs and the ability of the Medical Center to best accommodate those needs.
